my VIDEO on HARD SHADOWS by Doctor-Pencil my VIDEO on HARD SHADOWS by Doctor-Pencil
This is a 7 minute clip ( [link] ) I made and posted to my new Youtube channel (DrPencil777) on how to get the dark areas of your drawing REALLY DARK!!

I'll get better at doing this soon, but this is my FIRST attempt at making a video tutorial with my Android cell phone's Camcorder, and I need to learn things like how to adjust the video settings, which distance to the paper is best, what video conversion format to use that's best for Youtube, etc, etc...BUT at least this should give you an idea of what I plan to do in the future for a variety of things, like: Eyes, Hair, Lips, Noses, Teeth, Hard Shadows, etc.

Tell me what you think? Thanks!
:D:D

PS - crap I need to cut my nails, ha!

WOW! Im currently 13 and i love to draw and i find it interesting how you almost do no drawing just shading as when im drawing i always put as much detail as i can in the drawing then shade.

oh, yeah that's what I find is easier? I don't want to blend away all the details, so I do them last, which IS a little harder, because the paper does not react the same as it would if it were pure white :D:D

Really like your videos on youtube! I'm a fan. I love how you keep all of your drawings in a binder. Do you think I could do that too even though 95 percent of my drawings are 11x14 inch!? The one of Obama is even twice that big so that one definitely isn't going to be in there. Got it hanging on the wall instead. I only have my drawings lying in a drawer and rarely look at them. It would be so nice to have them all in a binder so I could more easily view them. It is so much different and better looking at the real drawing than looking at them on the computer. But man I love all your drawings. Keep up the great work with those and the videos. Talk to ya later friend!

Great video, it's real HD quality, which is awesome. Glad you finally got around to making one, it's good to see the drawings evolving. I've not commented so much recently 'cause you get so many on the portraits, i thought i'd save you some time on the replies!

Keep up the excellent work dude - and i hope to see more videos soon, thanks for sharing Rick. :D

Black areas can be really frustrating! I fought and fought them on my last drawing. Either they weren't dark enough or they were really shiny and hard to scan or photograph for an upload. Hopefully your video will help me. :D Thanks, Rick!

STILL cant work out how you get the detail so teeny :) This is really great, I love to see how other people work.

I have resorted to layering carbon under 8B for big dark areas due to pencil marks and shading, but yours is sooo smooth, I think i'll go watch again :)

P.S. I have some nice nail polish if your rather keep the nails :D
